Lizard Lighthouse

The distinctive twin towers of the Lizard Lighthouse not only mark the most southerly point of mainland Britain but also house a Heritage Centre and six holiday cottages that sleep up to eight guests. Commissioned in 1752 the lighthouse has guided vessels safely into the Cornish waters for over 250 years.

Cantick Head Lighthouse
Hoy Island, Orkney Isles
Escape from it all with a trip to Cantick Head Lighthouse, situated at the opposite end of the country at the tip of the Walls peninsula in the Orkney Isles. With your nearest neighbour over a mile away relax in perfect tranquillity and make friends with some new friends – the seals and whales. The Lighthouse and Lightkeeper's Cottages were designed and engineered in the 1850's by the Stevenson brothers David and Thomas, sons of engineer Robert Stevenson.

South Stack Lighthouse
South Stack Island, Anglesey
Reached via a descent of 400 steps down the steep mainland cliffs and onto a footbridge, this remote lighthouse provides visitors with the chance to see some of the 4,000 nesting seabirds, including guillemots, razorbills and puffins, that line the cliffs during the breeding season.

St Catherine's Lighthouse
Nr Niton, Isle of Wight
A light was first positioned on the southerly tip of the Isle of Wight in 1323 before the distinctive octagonal tower of St.Catherine's Lighthouse, that can be seen today, was built in 1838. The lighthouse is also home to three terraced cottages that are available to hire through www.ruralretreats.co.uk. The whole site is situated just outside the hamlet of Niton, approximately 10 minutes' drive from the popular coastal resort of Ventnor, the southern most point of the Isle of Wight.

Longstone Lighthouse
Farne Islands, Northumberland
Famous for the daring rescue of survivors from the Forfarshire shipwreck by the keeper and his daughter, William and Grace Darling, in 1838, the Longstone Lighthouse sits quietly among the stunning Farne Islands. Trips, via Golden Gate Boat Trips, include a 30-minute tour of the lighthouse and a cruise around the islands to view seabirds and the famous grey seal colony. Landing and opening of the lighthouse is at the boatman's discretion.
