Competitions

Why are the competitions in the magazine restricted to residents of the UK and Channel Islands?

I live in Ireland and, although I am a subscriber, I can't even enter the bl**dy subscriber's competition.

You seem to have no issue with taking my subscription though.

Hi Sandra,

Good to have you on the forum.

The laws that govern competitions are different in each country, and we can only be sure that our competitions comply with UK law. It’s sadly not as simple as asking overseas entrants to agree that as the competition is governed by UK law as in some places it could be an offence under their local laws even to make the competition available to their nationals.

That’s the principle underlying the decision and the reason why we restrict entry on a geographical basis.

I'm sorry this is the case. I wish we could open the competition up internationally, but it simply isn’t possible at the moment. I'm fully aware that international readers would like to enter and if the relevant laws ever change, we’ll review the position.

Hope that answers the question.

All the best,

Cavan

Ah, I see.

Don't worry. Nanny and the EU Superstate will soon put you right!

I personally think Sandra deserves a free Countryfile Mug for raising the issue.

Thank you so much! I second that!

By the way....which issue are you referring to? The competitions? Or Nanny and the EU Superstate?
