This year marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of Sir Peter Scott, founder of the Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust (WWT) and the man who Sir David Attenborough described as the “patron saint of conservation.” To celebrate the centenary, Countryfile Magazine has teamed up with WWT to launch our first ever writing competition.
We want you, in no more than 100 words, to tell us about one of your experiences of great British wildlife. It could be a description of natural phenomena you have witnessed, a chance encounter with wildlife, or conservation work you have been involved in. Either way, it needs to bring your own voice and experience and tell a real story in no more than 100 words.
The winner will see their story printed in our September 2009 issue (on sale 25 August) and will also win a fantastic break in the West Country, featuring a three-night stay for two at the stunning Thornbury Castle in South Gloucestershire, worth £630. Check out www.thornburycastle.co.uk for more about this stunning property, the only Tudor castle in England now open as a hotel.
Your break will also include a special VIP day at the WWT Slimbridge reserve founded by Sir Peter in 1946, where you will be given an exclusive behind-the-scenes glimpse of the reserve and the conservation work of the WWT.
To enter, complete the form below and send in your story.
